THE LAW OF GOD IS PERFECT

Many of the things we do and not even think about, but they have their origins in the Law God .  God took a nation of slaves and made them into a nation led by Biblical Principles. Many of which we live by on a daily basis, not realising that God was there first.

The world preaches a message that if we buy into this or that product we will become more  successful.    Use the right deodorant and people will rush into our arms.  They will be caught up in the magnetism of our hair product.  The underlying message is success and greater assurance   But seriously we all know that is not reality and yet people still buy the products.

We all like to see ourselves as the superhero that rights all wrongs, sets the world to right, fight doctor doom and defeat the arch villain.  We all see ourselves as the hero of our dreams.   Yet even thought we know we are not supermen, we still buy into something of that reality.

God  gave us the LAW and that LAW became a mirror to our souls.  When we look into that mirror, we don’t see a super hero but the super villain.    We don’t see ourselves as the solution but the problem.

Gal 3: 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

When we read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation this message keeps jumping out at us.  Man is not the solution but the problem.  Now this is not a comfortable message.  We don’t like such a message to be preached to us.  It takes God to break apart the dream, give us the truth and shock us into a reality that we are the villains.  We are the super foes.  We are the ones that God needs to lead captive.  Hog tie us and bring us to the realisation we are broken fragile beings that are mired and corrupted by sin.    This makes us so very uncomfortable!!!!

“Start calling yourself healed, happy, whole, blessed, and prosperous. Stop talking to God about how big your mountains are, and start talking to your mountains about how big your God is!”  ― Joel Osteen, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential

It is easy to buy into a message of ease, comfort and prosperity even if it’s a lie, because the truth is many  are not prospering they are being persecuted.  Many are not healed and suffer terrible health issues.  Lying will not change the truth.  Lying to oneself is probably the biggest deception of all.  Saying it does not make it happen.

The man who is scared because someone threw acid on his face because of his faith is hardly the man who is going to lie to himself and proclaim he looks like Rock Hudson.   Nor belief he is healed when he obviously is not.

So when Joel Osteen claims  you can have your “ best life now, “  is this not the same message the world preaches every day though commercials  and TV programs.  Is this not the same message Joyce Meyer preaches when she makes up her confessional list of health and wealth.  Is this not the message of ease that we in ourselves are the superheroes which rights all wrongs?  Let’s all be positive and see ourselves as the solution, the head and not the tail as many prosperity teachers affirm.   That somehow we are to see ourselves as little gods writing out our own little world via the power of our tongues. Otherwise buy into the same myth and the same lie and we will be successful wealthy and prosperous.  But God does not look on man as man does.  The message these people preach is not God centred but self centred.  How to make ME feel good about myself?  What will make ME comfortable?  What pampers to MY feelings?

The fact that like many commercials on products there are elements of truth mixed in there.  They can’t be total lies, but what people come away with may not actually be the truth either. Like the man who builds himself a Noah type ark, sprayed himself with a popular deodorant,  and all the women come to him two by two.  No one believes it will happen, the commercial is a fabrication and yet people will go out and buy the product.  We are subtly persuaded, even when we know the commercial was a spoof.

WE COME STAMPED FAILURE.

The gospel message is heading in a completely different direction.  The law makes one thing clear the package we buy into does not make me the superhero, but the super villain.   It’s only as we begin to see ourselves as God sees us that we begin to understand the failure, the magnitude and the consequences.   The gospel is not meant to be popular, spruced up and coated with dainty lyrics.  It’s meant to offend, convict and compel the sinner from his ways.  Its shatters our allusions, it breaks down our confidence in ourselves until finally we raise the white flag and cry surrender.

“It’s vital that you accept yourself and learn to be happy with who God made you to be. If you want to truly enjoy your life, you must be at peace with yourself.” ― Joel Osteen, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential

Somehow these people want us to believe that God wears rose tainted glasses and sees us as something we are not.  The truth is I am not happy with myself.  We are called to overcome.  How can you overcome unless you are not happy with something?

It can never be a matter of me saving myself by buying into some commercialised product.  This hair spray or deodorant is no guarantee of happiness, no matter what the product makers say..  I am not the superman of my dreams.  The need is therefore to hang up my hero suit, step down from the throne and look to the one person who is truly the real superhero and he is the one who died on the cross to save me.

For many the cross was but a failure, a marked man who failed to realise that the people who ruled the roast would see to it that he would be taken out of the picture.  But little realising that is was in such humility, discomfort and pain that the real example was demonstrated.   At any moment thousands of angels could have came to his rescue.  At any moment who could have thrown the entire legions of Roman soldiers into some fiery pit.  At any moment he could have thrown aside his humility and demonstrated that he was in every way GOD.  But it was in this example of humility and surrender to his Fathers will that the true glory was seen.  It was in laying down his humanity and surrendering himself to the indignity of a crucifixion that he laid down the example to each of us.

2 Cor 1: 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead

Self wants the glory the honour and the power.  Our spiritual head Jesus choose to lay it down as an example that we need to also lay down our self interests.

Phil 2: 5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus

What mind was that?  What example did he lay out before him?

Phil 2: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God

So it is not in declaring  that I am some little god, but our willingness to reject our own image as the superhero.  To declare NOT I but Christ that lives in me, and to renounce my own super identity.  Surrender it and declare that without Christ we are simply miserable failures.  The super villains that we all hate to boo and to realise we are that person.  Dont get me wrong we are blessed people, but we are blessed because GOD is the one doing the blessing.

Phil 2: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men

The prosperity Gospel point inwards, that we should elevate ourselves.  To see ourselves that it is not Christ but I that liveth in me.

For the believer the way up is down.  For the prosperity teachers the way down produces negativity and a failure.  We must preach upwards. Be positive exalt ourselves and cry out that we are gods in Gods class.  We must become the head and not the tail.  GOD help the one who preaches otherwise.  Yet sadly God becomes nothing more than another piece of merchandising, the selling of a product, or the newest hair die or deodorant.  Keep it positive and the punters will buy into it.  Never mind the fact that its all hogwash.

Phil 2: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross

Jesus example was obedience even to suffering at the hands of men.  But for those who merchandise the gospel and pervert its message there is no willingness to submit to humiliation, that’s beneath them.  How many would be prepare to sell their chauffer driven limos , surrender their private jets, and give away their expensive homes to live in a caravan?    The west has preached a message of ease wealth and comfort whilst many of our Christian Brothers and sisters in the east labour under fear persecution victimisation imprisonment and death.  They endure the hardship that we in the west would be aghast at.  Yet I wonder which witness would God bless more?

Phil 2: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth.

The true Gospel does not come to give us ease and comfort.  If anything the very opposite is true.  We are not at ease in this world.  We continually live with the knowledge of being imperfect creatures before a perfect God.

Joyce Meyer talks about how God wants us to be rich and prosperous, and yet Jesus makes it clear DON’T LAY UP FOR YOURSELF TREASURE ON EARTH WHERE MOTH AND RUST DOTH CORRUPT.  BUT LAY UP YOUR TREASURES IN HEAVEN.

So the prosperity teachers circumvent the word to make it say something it does not. They labour to talk about fictitious conversations with God telling them the very opposite. People scoop up the lie and embrace it as the gospel truth.

In a recent conversation over the heretical teachings of Joyce Meyer I had a dear lady tried to argue that I was merely slandering her, to the point where she would not even believe her own ears when she heard Joyce Meyer from her own ears teach heresy.  Such is the overwhelming merchandising that many continue to buy into this message of ease.  She eventually befriended me.  In the end it was easier to listen to a message that she wanted to hear than a message that was uncomfortable.

Rom 7: 14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin

Even the great Apostle Paul at the height of his ministry had to come to that realisation of his own need.  I AM CARNAL AND SOLD UNDER SIN.  This is no message of ease comfort and whipping out the super hero suit and declaring my own identity as some little god who is in God’s league.

Rom 7: 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but [how] to perform that which is good I find not

Rom 7: 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

This type of message hurts the pride.  It strikes at the core of self.  We are uncomfortable with it. It leaves us with no excuse.  The Holy Spirit will not excuse us, nor leave us with our sin intact.  However the answer comes in the next verse.

Rom 7: 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin

The turning point for Paul was not hiding the issue and pretending it was not there but the realisation that this was who he was.  Who among the prosperity ministers are prepared to give such a negative statement about themselves?  To speak it is to become it.  Joel Osteen believes that to make such a negative statement is a sin.

In all points to our own spiritual bankruptcy, but in that failure comes the hope and realisation of the saviour who is more than willing to save from the gutter to the highest.  No where does Paul declare that his confession would change his condition.  No where does he teach that his words will save himself.  NO where does he say confess and that confession will make you prosperous.

The very opposite is made clear by Hebrews 11.  Try preaching Joel Osteen message that one can have ones BEST LIFE NOW to these men.

Heb 11 : 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented.

Yes some saw their dead brought to life and other did not.  Some wandered in deserts and some had homes. Some subdued lions and kingdoms, but others saw bondage and torture.   Hardly reiterating the message of Osteen on how to have your best life now.  Frankly many did not have a good life and many today would not consider that a reality.

Yet they all choose to suffer the affliction as the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. They all had great faith.  So those who suffered and died had the same faith as those who subdued kingdoms.  So we must be reminded that faith is not based upon the size of ones bank balance but the size of one faith.  Faith that is not centred on what I say but in what God says.

Moslems will often accuse the apostle Paul of changing what Jesus taught, however God found in Paul another Moses.  Moses was trained in the highest levels Egyptian traditions.  Paul was also trained to the highest level of Jewish tradition.  God got both their attention in a miraculous way.  God spoke to both of them.  Both were called and trained to help establish Gods people

Through Moses God brought out a bunch slaves.  God set them free from their taskmasters who treated them cruelly.  Moses led them into the wilderness where he established and taught them to become a people who could govern themselves.  They were to become a physical nation, trained up to establish a physical kingdom.

God took another bunch of slaves delivered them from their superstition and paganism, and setting them free from their wickedness. They too were under a heavy taskmaster.  Then through the apostle Paul taught them how to be a people.  Helping them to see who they were in Christ and to establish what they were in Christ.   Through the apostle Paul God defined  some of the most basic principles which defined our worship, preparing  the way for those would become a spiritual people who would be trained up to establish a  spiritual kingdom

The argument that Paul changed the law and subverted the teachings of Jesus simply collapses when one understand the background as to what was happening.  By the time Jesus was born the temple and all that went with it was well past its sell by date.  God was moving beyond that to something better.  The Jewish people were themselves moving beyond the temple as Jewish people were ever-moving further across the known world.  Synagogues were being established for local Jews in many places including Israel.  Jesus became the final paschal lamb to be killed.  And once that was done the whole structure upon which sacrificial sacrifices were offered was done and finished.   One of the main reasons that Christians do not adhere too much of what the Torah demanded is because most of these things were established around the temple, the Levite priests and the sacrifices.  Once they were gone there was no longer a need to base ones faith around this temple complex.  God was moving away from a structure and into the very lives of those who believe.

Now Jesus asked which of the commandments was the most important.  Many Jewish scholars would spend hours debating which law was the most important.  Jesus cuts through the lot

Deut 6: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might

Luke 10: 27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Jesus is simply quoting what the Old Testament itself says.

Paul reiterates this in 1 Cor 13

1 Cor 13: 1- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

1 Cor 13: 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing

Remember through Paul, God was establishing the basic practical principles of the kingdom and how to put those principles into effect.

Many believe that Paul was very anti circumcision and he developed the idea of doing away with it.  Yet few realise that it was God himself through Moses who established that circumcision had to of the heart long before it was ever of the flesh.

Deut 30: 6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

For what good is circumcision externally if the heart itself has not been changed.  Circumcision therefore becomes a meaningless
ritual without a change life.

A man can have a scar and still be as wicked as a man without one.

 THE FIRST JERUSALEM COUNCIL

The accusations that many Moslems throw at the apostle Paul that he changed the direction upon which the Christian faith moved is fruitless.  Considering also that even Moslems don’t adhere to what the law demanded either.  They have no background in a Jewish temple, Levitical priesthood or sacrificial offering.  So they themselves would be seen as apostates as far as the Torah are concerned.  More like calling the kettle black.

We are told that Paul; in case he was preaching another gospel went up to the Jerusalem church and submitted himself to the apostles.

Gal 2: 2  And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:

Acts 15 was the first Jerusalem council where many of this issue were thrashed out.  It should be remembered that this was a predominantly Jewish council

Acts 15: 1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, [and said], Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

Acts 15: 5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command [them] to keep the law of Moses.

The temple and all that went with it was still an active complex at this time.  The fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple were still many years ahead.  So the whole issue was very much a hot topic.  Was it salvation by faith alone or salvation plus works rituals etc.

Acts 15: 6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

Acts 15: 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts 15: 24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, [Ye must] be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no [such] commandment:

Now it was made clear that NO such message was delivered either by the apostles or Paul that Gentiles believers were to keep the commandments.  This by application meant all the rules and regulations which were imposed
upon the Jews.

 WAS THIS DECISION RIGHT…….  YES!

Within a few decades the temple and all that went with it would be gone.  They knew that salvation had to be in Christ alone through faith alone.

Acts 15: 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

It was made very clear from the chapter that what Paul and other preached was indeed the same gospel.

The practicalities of keeping the temple rituals were all gone  destroyed by Roman legions.  The Jews were for the most part scattered.   So any continuation of these rituals was now impossible.

2 cor 6: 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?   for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The tabernacle was but a shadow of what was to come.  God for a time dwelt within its tents situated between the cherubim which rested on top of the Ark of the Covenant.  There God would meet with the high priest . But God desired a better coveant through which to communicate with his people.

Jer 31: 33 But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Ex 29: 45 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God

Lev 26: 12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

Jer 32: 38 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

Now as we can see Paul was not in conflict with either what Moses taught or the prophets.    But was Paul in conflict with Jesus ?

John 14: 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Jesus made this promise that he and the father would come and dwell within the believer.  So we can see this whole train
of revelation being revealed from as far back as Moses himself.

DOES PAUL TEACH THAT WE SHOULD OBEY GOD?

Mar 3: 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother (Jesus)

Rom  12: 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what
[is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God  (Paul)

1 Peter 4: 2 That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.  (Peter)

Again we see that what Paul teaches was what Jesus and the rest of the disciples taught.

Whilst Moses and Paul lives ended differently it could be said that they never saw the full fulfilment of what
they started.  But on both accounts they were instrumental in establishing two great nations.   Establishing the simple practicalities of worship order decency morality and doctrine  In many ways both were instrumental in establishing the church.  Both received their revelation direct from God.  Both it appears receive that training in the backside of the desert.

John 1: 17 For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Rom 5: 15 But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

1 Peter 5: 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you].

So we have an agreement that what Jesus taught the apostles taught.  There was no conflict between them.

WHO DECIDED TO TAKE THE GOSPEL TO THE GENTILES

Many Moslems will try to add that the gospel was only to the Jews and that Islam is for the world.  Such a suggestion is just plain foolish.  They will also try and argue that it was Paul that took the gospel to the gentiles.  As you will see that was also not the case.

Let us  see what scripture says on this matter.

Even in the OT with Moses there was a hint that even gentiles would be allowed into the covenant provided they were prepared to keep the law that was established under Moses.

Ex 12: 38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, [even] very much cattle.

This meant there were also Gentiles (Egyptians )  that fled with the Jews.

Ex 12: 48 And when a stranger (gentile) shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.

Nevertheless prophecy did speak of a time when the gentiles would play a greater part in the affairs of God.

Is 60: 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising

(NO arguement there… it says gentiles shall come to the light)

Is 62: 3 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

(Gentiles would see the righteousness of God)

John 10: 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, [and] one shepherd.

(John confirms this revelation that this is what Jesus  declared)

Acts 11: 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

(Holy Spirit confirmed by baptising gentile believers)

Acts 13: 46  Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Hosea 1: 10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people, [there] it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living God.

So from both the old and the new there was still the revelation that the gentiles would indeed come into the covenant of grace.  There is no conflict whatsoever in the Gentiles being brought into the covenant.  From the start it was always Gods intention to save both Jews and Gentiles; to bring them into one fold under one shepherd.

New local guidelines from the Stoke-on- Trent city council in England has issued a new dictate to primary and secondary schools.

A row has erupted after schools were given ridiculous guidance to rearrange exams and even cancel lessons during the month of Ramadan.  Council chiefs were accused of excessive political correctness and pandering to minorities by issuing an edict to Primary and secondary schools on how to avoid offending Muslim pupils.

1 The guidance includes cancelling sex education lessons as Muslims are expected to avoid sexual thoughts during fasting.

2 Teachers were told not to hold parents meetings and social events after school if they clash with prayers or meal times.  Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

3. They are also told avoid swimming lessons to avoid the risk that Muslims swallow water as nothing must pass their lips.

4. Teachers are told that fasting children should avoid excessive exertion during PE lesions as a they may become dehydrated.

5. Pupils eligible for schools meals should be allowed to take them home.

An article by the Daily Express Monday 12 July 2010

A local council spokesman has said that it was up to the individual head teacher whether or not to implement the guidance.  Now personally if it was up to the head teacher why bother given the guidance in the first place.  Surely the head teacher would already be aware of what children he has at his school.  It becomes obvious that to exclude a child from Lessons will be detrimental to their education.  To change the overall running of the school to cater for the few is detrimental to the education of the whole school.  In such cases it could be argued that sharia law is already running certain parts of our society.

It has long been of the opinion of many that Muslim Law is slowly coming in through the back door and eventually affecting those who have no desire to be Moslems.  In the end we could land up loosing our freedom all in the name of freedom and equality.

While it seems Christians are being arrested, beaten, tortured and imprisoned on a regular basis in countries where freedom of conscience is denied.  We have beauracats pampering to hand our freedom over to Islam.  It just becomes a matter of time before these so-called guidelines begin to affect the general public.  But then these guidelines will be more than just guidelines.

HERE IS A QUICK DEFINITION OF SHARIA LAW BY ONE LAW FIRM.

  • “Shariah: God’s eternal and immutable will for humanity as expressed in the Quran and Muhammad’s example. “
    • Sharia law – Islamic law involves not only tortuous and mostly literal interpretations of ancient Muslim traditions and Arab tribal customs, and of a religious book written in about 632 (the Koran) which took – but also modified – many of those customs.
    • To that mix, there have been several subsequent religious texts and schools of thought (such as the Sunna), which is itself an interpretation of the Koran.
    • Even more: to this is added a plethora of alleged sayings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (530-632) and his successors.
    • Each of the approximately 50 Islamic states and countries that have, to varying degrees, Sharia law, has applied layers of doctrine upon the original religious texts resulting in a multitude of different interpretations and different legal results.
    • In The Legal Companion (2005), author V. Powell writes:

“MUSLIM COUNTRIES ENFORCE THE SHARIA TO DIFFERENT EXTENTS.

“Iran and Saudi Arabia apply it to all areas of life….

“The Sharia is also interpreted differently within different branches of Islam.”

Further, in the context of Sharia law practitioners or courts which operate outside of Muslim or Islamic states but within other jurisdictions, the practice of Sharia law is consistently represented as flexible and reconciliatory in nature; a far cry from the protestations of Muslim jurists in states which are primarily Muslim.

Some countries, such as Tunisia, have hybrid systems, rejecting Sharia law in most instances yet relying it in others, such as in the area of divorce and family law, inheritance, contracts and banking.

To some Sharia jurists, the Sharia applies only to Muslims and does not technically apply to non-Muslims such as Christians (eg. Malaysia and Indonesia as of 2008). In other jurisdictions, such as Sudan (as of 2008), the application of the Shari law to non-Muslims – with all the attendant punishments – is considered unfair and unjust.

THUS, IT IS DIFFICULT TO SPEAK OF SHARIA AS A DISTINCT OR COHESIVE BODY OF LAW.

One consistent feature is that, by design of the Islam prophet Muhammad, and his Koran, Islamic or Sharia law reaches far deeper into the control of the personal and moral life of the people who are bound to it than, for example, those jurisdictions governed by  civil Law or common law systems.

For example, in Sharia law, it is forbidden for post-pubescent women to expose their faces in public.

The use of alcohol and the consumption of pork are prohibited.

Because the governments are often theocratic, any criticism of the government is taken as blasphemy, for which the Sharia prescribes prison or death.

Sharia law is often taken to task by common law or civil law jurisdictions for the perceived cruelty and gender-bias of its content. For example, this extract from a 2006 article published in the international law review of Loyola Law School at Los Angeles:

“In 2002, a Nigerian Sharia court sentenced Amina Lawal to be stoned to death for having a child out-of-wedlock; in contrast, the man named as the father denied responsibility, and as a result, the court dropped charges against him.

“In another case, teenager Bariya Magazu asserted that she was raped by three men and became pregnant as a result. Because she had sex outside of marriage, a Sharia court sentenced her to one hundred lashes, even though seven people corroborated her story. The men accused of the rape received no punishment.

“The extreme bias against women is apparent in sentences of adultery or fornication under Sharia. A woman is convicted simply by becoming pregnant, but a man is not condemned unless four people can testify that they witnessed the normally private acts of adultery or fornication.

“Countries such as Nigeria impose flogging, stoning, or severing off a hand … all of which are deterrent punishments for serious crimes mentioned in the (Koran).”

  • Generally, a person alleged to have violated Sharia laws in the states governed by them would not be pursued, or apprehended, in states not governed by Sharia laws.
  • Many states which implement Sharia law have blasphemy statutes which  punishes by prison or death any person who such as preaching Christianity or the distribution of Christian items.

  • In Refash Party v Turkey, the European Court of Human Rights adopted these words:
    • “It is difficult to declare one’s respect for democracy and human rights while at the same time supporting a regime based on sharia, which clearly diverges from values (of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms), particularly with regard to its criminal law and criminal procedure, its rules on the legal status of women and the way it intervenes in all spheres of private and public life in accordance with religious precepts….”In the Court’s view, a political party whose actions seem to be aimed at introducing Sharia in a State party to the Convention can hardly be regarded as an association complying with the democratic ideal that underlies the whole of the Convention.”

IF I HAVE READ THIS RIGHT DEMOCRACY AND SHARIA LAW DO NOT  MIX.
