Uniqueness of the Son in relationship to the father.

Moslems will attempt to argue that Jesus cannot be “THEE” son of God, as there are many others who are also called sons of God.  They will emphasis his humanity in order to blank out his divinity.  Some have even based their testimony that they came to reject Christianity because they could not equate Jesus sonship as a divine characteristic.  However we will show beyond any doubt that his sonship did not deny his divinity but proves it.

We must be reminded that for some their viewpoint is the ground and their vision is their shoes laces.  For others it is to soar high above the skyline and see the horizon stretch out before them.

2 Cor 4: 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost

I intend for us to look further than our shoelaces and to rise above and see the skyline of the uniquenss of the divinity of Jesus.

So Jesus is the only Monogenes of the father

John 1: 12-13  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

This right had to be given, and by whom?  None other than Jesus himself.  Sonship is only the right of one, the rest must receive it.  Does Jesus have that unique right to be called the SON of GOD?  Absolutely as we will show.  Do you or I have that same right?  NO.   So immediately we will see that there is a big difference between Jesus and the rest of us.  Jesus has something we don’t.  But it is Jesus that gives that right to become the sons of God.  So there is something that was inherits in Jesus that was his by right, that is not ours by right.

Ps 2: 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee

As the psalmist prophesied this right as Son comes directly from God.  Now this relationship cannot be embraced by all because not everyone will rule

Ps 2: 8 Ask of me, and I shall give [thee] the heathen [for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth [for] thy possession

Ps 2: 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion

There is something in this sonship that no normal person can assume.  Claim or own.

John 1: 14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth

ONLY BEGOTEN monogenēs  MONO GENES  otherwise “one of a kind”.  He is unique in all aspects of this relationship, nature and expression.

We can only rightly understand the term “the only begotten” when used of the Son, in the sense of unoriginated relationship. “The begetting is not an event of time, however remote, but a fact irrespective of time. The Christ did not become, but necessarily and eternally is the Son. He, a Person, possesses every attribute of pure Godhood. This necessitates eternity, absolute being; in this respect He is not ‘after’ the Father” (Moule). The expression also suggests the thought of the deepest affection, as in the case of the OT word yachid, variously rendered, “only one,” Gen 22:2, 12; “only son,” Jer 6:26; Amo 8:10; Zec 12:10; “only beloved,” Pro 4:3, and “darling,” Psa 22:20; 35:17.

Begotten does not mean he had a creative beginning but has always existed with the father. We will show that the attributes of one are equal to the attributes of the other.  One of the major ways the Bible does is to lay out before us side by side Jesus attributes and the fathers attributes and allows us to come to the logical conclusion.

Jesus is unique in his knowledge of the father.

Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and [he] to whomsoever the Son will reveal [him].

Son knows the father and the father knows  the son.: Now let this sink into your mind for a few seconds.  God is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, all-powerful   Yet of this son Jesus is the one revealed the father to others.  Nor was this revelation limited but it’s fully comprehensive.  This means that Jesus knew the will of the father,  He knew intimately the fathers thoughts.  He knew the fathers nature in all aspects.  There is nothing of the fathers character or expression that Jesus did not know.

Jesus is unique in his revelation of the father.

Jhn 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him]

No prophet has ever had a clear revelation of God.  He is beyond our reach.  Yet the son could declare NO man has seen God but Jesus.  More than that Jesus exists in the very heart of the father and is loved by the father.  He alone was able to reveal the Father to others.

Jesus is unique in giving of eternal life.

Jhn 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him

Jesus is not just offering physical life, but eternal life.  A life which beams forth a quality of life beyond the physical.  Those who have chosen to reject this giver it says has the wrath of God upon them.  For he who rejects this life must inevitable embrace death

Jesus is unique in being able to copy his father,

Jhn 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do : for what things soever he doeth , these also doeth the Son likewise.

This makes him equal to God in so far as what the father can do , his son can do.  Hebrews 1 backs this up as the one who authority holds the universe together.   And laid the foundation of the heavens and the earth.  As the father create so he is able to create.  As the father hold the universe, so Jesus is able to hold the universe.  Some people would fall over this statement at this point and herald that this would make two creators.  However that is not what he is saying.  We are being given these facts side by side which show that of there was one creator and as each statement is true.  Then Jesus has to be God.

Jesus is unique in giving life to the dead.

Jhn 5:21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth [them]; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will .

Prerogative of the son to raise the dead in the same way as the father.  Again this makes Jesus the life giver and equal to God.

Jesus is unique because the father has referred all judgement to the son

Jhn 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

Jesus is unique because he deserves equal honour to the father.

Jhn 5:23 That all [men] should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Moslems will often make bold claims to love Jesus more than Christians.  But such boasting is pointless if they reject what Jesus actually teaches.  That says Jesus is not love.  What many are in fact in love with is an imaginary person who never lived.  Is simply not the real historical Jesus of the Bible.  They are in love with a fairy tale.

Jesus is unique in relationship to humanity as the one who will resurrect the dead

Jhn 5:25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming , and now is , when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live .

Jesus is unique because he is the source of life

Jhn 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

Unique in so far as just as the FATHER  has LIFE in himself , So that same life can be found in his son.  NO man can keep alive his own body never mind being able to boast that he has the same life as God has.

Uniqueness of the sons relationship with the father, and the fathers relationship with the son.

Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Unique in the father’s relationship to this son, in so far as he had this testimony from God.  This is my SON and whom I AM WELL PLEASED.  His cannot be said of another.  All others have failed to live up to the title son of God.  But this son pleased his father.

Jesus is unique because he shares the same glory of the father.

John 17: 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was

Is 48: 11 For mine own sake, [even] for mine own sake, will I do [it]: for how should [my name] be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another

Gods glory is that which is unique to God.  He cannot share what is his nature and his presence.  It belongs uniquely to God.  Yet here we see Jesus declaring that this uniqueness is his.

Uniqueness of the love of Jesus

John 14: 21  He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them,  He it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

To have a love for Jesus is tied into receiving the love of the Father.  Also comes this promise that Jesus will manifest himself to the believer.  That takes omnipresence.  Unlimited by the constraints of being a finite creation.

Uniqueness in praying to Jesus will be answered

John 13: 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son

Uniqueness that both the Father and the son will manifest THEMSELVES TOGETHER to the believer.

John 14: 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Jesus is unique  in substance , nature and glory  of God.

John 16: 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.

John 16: 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you

All now belongs to the son what once belonged to the father.  Again this speaks of equality with the father.  Hebrews 1 further declares that even the angels were to bow to the son.  Furthermore Jesus is to be glorified.  Otherwise he is to be elevated to the highest level.

No man can take this honour or glory to himself , but the son has it by right.
