There is no excuse to reject the present reality of the love of God

There are times in one’s life that you come across people who stager the imagination.  Like a story someone has told but you never believe it really exists.  Today in America there are groups that preach a gospel that is devoid of the compassion or love of God.  To them Gods love is something which they refer to in  “pass tense”, God once loves somebody at some time but now he has only hatred for the wicked.    There is no place for the love of God in their lives at least not towards those they consider the wicked, which in many areas is just about everyone bar themselves.

They seem unable to embrace the basic reality that Gods nature is love, so they emphasis those scriptures which talks about the anger of God towards the wicked.  They will talk about how God hates the wicked.     But they will deny the reality of Gods love and compassion towards the lost.

One such preacher which this post has mentioned before has made it obvious what he truly believes.  I hope he comes to the reality that we who have received such love are also obliged to give it also.  Let us look at this growing reality both from scripture and from the prophetic.

A debate which took place on Face Book

Mat 24: 11- 12 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

This prophecy has become a frightening realisation today.  But to see a doctrine being preached among those who claim to be Christian that actually rejects  both the authority of scripture and the fundamental doctrine that it teaches must clearly speak of a terrible coldness among those who claim to be Christians.  The Bible prophetically declares that this condition will arise because of the  iniquity is allowed to grow  unchecked. Lyman seems to dig his heals in and like some spoiled child stumps his feet and refuses to acknowledge that God could have any feelings others  than hate.

Romans 5: 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJ)

Rom 5: 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (NASB)

This debate which took place on (FB) should have any sincere Christian deeply troubled, for here we have someone calling himself a preacher actually denying some of the most basic doctrines of scripture, not once but twice.

This is how men like James lyman try to justify that God no longer has love for this world.  However this is also King James Version of writing.  It does not in fact mean past tense in the sense God once loved someone and has now abandoned that concept.  Such a concept runs contrary to Gods nature for God does not change.

In fact God was indeed showing love even when we were still sinners.  So rather than proving Lymans claim it actually proves him wrong.  Gods hand was outstretched desiring man to turn to himself.  If God was once showing sinners love then gave up on it, why then did Jesus even bother to come to earth never mind dying for us.  Did he simply sent Jesus as an act of love and justice , then afterwards decided it was too much effort on his part  and gave up on the whole idea?  Clearly NO NO NO .

1 John 4: 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Here we have the emphatic nature of God.  Now we know that this is true because as his sons we are to have the same nature as God has towards others.  We are not to be partial in loving only those who would love us, nor as so many who walk passed as the poor man who was laying by the way side broken and bleeding from wounds received at the hands of bandits.  But leapt of his mule and at his own risk was willingly  and desiring to treat  the injured  man and bound his wounds.  This is but a reflection of the love and compassion of God towards his creation.    So also are we to be of that same nature as our Lord and saviour.

This verse also warns that those who are unable to love others ….DO NOT EVEN KNOW GOD.  Men like James lyman who openly admits that he has no compassion and has been known to refer to himself as the cruel messenger.

Mat 5: 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

To be the children of God our love must also be without partiality towards others.  This verse does not refer to some past reality whereby he now withhold rain from some and give it to others.  But he has established this world to the benefit of all.

Math 4: 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

If we simply love some because they agreed with us, then we are no better than the religious crowd.  We are to love even those who do not agree.  Men like Richard Wurmbrand who came to love the communist prison guards. He was tortured and abused yet he was able to show Gods love towards them.

When men like lyman accuse people of being wicked usually on absolute No basis on which he can justify, It should be realised that he also is as wicked as can be.  In reality we are all wicked and dreadful sinners before a holy pure and perfect God.  The only way anyone of us can approach God is in the righteousness of another.  That righteousness comes from the one and only perfect son Jesus Christ.  Who lived a perfect life and died a perfect death.

So if God No longer loves us then none of us are saved.  If he is not commending that perfect love towards us then what is he commending towards the sinner NOW?.  Are we to change that verse to read something other than what it says.  Should it now read that “God commended his wrath to us that while were sinners God hated us” Or is that adding and changing the word of God.  If God does not commend his love towards us what hope is there , for we are certainly unable to save ourselves.

A couple stand in court to hear the judgement on their son who has cruelly murdered and slain numerous people.  They might hate him for the crime that he has committed,  and they may feel disgusted at his actions,  But they will also love him because he is their son and they desire that he turns from the direction in which he was heading.  They will hear the evidence and realised that he is guilty as charged.  The news of the sentencing will break their hearts because he is still their son.  God love desires beyond anything else only the well-being of his creation, but he also knows that mankind is also guilty of rebellion and sin.  This will involve both the righteousness and the compassion of God.  With one will be the judgement of the guilty party and the other his desire to see the guilty restored back to a right relationship with him.  Both the righteous judgement and the love of God meet at the cross and are satisfied.  Christ took what was not his to take, our sins.  In exchanged he gave us his righteousness to clothe us.

Math 19: 19 Honour thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22: 39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Luk 6: 35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and [to] the evil.

Now is there any room here for some CRUEL MESSENGER?   Who lacks even the slightest Biblical understanding of scripture?    But the greatest danger is that he places himself in a position in which he rejects what God says

1 John 3: 16 Hereby perceive we the love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren.

1 John 4: 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

But having the ability to love others also proves that we are born of God and knows God.  But the person who rejects that love and does not believe that God still loves even the wicked what of them?  The scripture clearly tells us they do not even know God and are not born again.  This is why we can say with a certainty that James Lyman may not even be born again

1 John 4: 19 We love him, because he first loved us.

If God now only hates the sinner then to love the sinner would be an act of disobedience on our part, but as we have seen that is not what scripture teaches.

Gal 5: 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF.

Gal 5: 22 But the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,….”

So the fundamental nature of the Christian is being transformed into the same nature as Gods., But what happens when someone who calls themselves a Christian and does not even support this theology, Can he still be considered a Christian?  In many ways the answer has already been given.

Again is this nature a past event in the believer’s life or a present and ongoing reality and if so who is making that reality real in the believer’s life.  If so what does that say about Gods desire for man.

Lyman and people like him because they have some twisted concept of love, somehow believe that such a doctrine must mean that if Gods loves everyone then everyone will get to heaven.  But that is no where taught in scripture.  God has appointed a time when he will judge the souls of  all men.  For those who have rejected and despised his hand of friendship and love their will be a fearful judgement.  God is not to be spurned.  But if people choose to reject God offer of love and salvation, if they refuse to be changed by him then his justice will be the last option.

It must also be realised that people do not come to a theology as James lyman has without some real deep personal issues.  Either it has to do with unforgiveness towards others or unrepentance.    It is therefore an issue to pray for this man and men like him.  Pray that Gods true motives will be made real to them.  Pray for a deep conviction and a revelation of whom and what God is.  Pray that these men will find the real Jesus of the Bible, rather than a contrived God of their own imagination.  Most of all to show them what they seldom are able to show others which is the true LOVE of God.

Will Keen’s 15 minutes of fame on the internet.
It’s a shame the way Lyman treats people. Will went over and spoke out of love and kindness and the man called him ignorant. I great example of the contempt that Lyman has for his fellow man. Hopefully God will strike him with an epipheny like Paul got on the road to Damascus and knock some loving sense into his head or heart. That is my prayer.

  2. Laura Lee says:

Jesus Christ died ONLY to save from the wrath of God the elect whom God had chosen. God hates the reprobate — He knows who they are. You cannot apply doctrinally God’s love for the elect with God’s hate for the reprobate. Jacob have I loved. Esau have I hated. Jesus did not pray for the world — but only for those God had called out of the world. If you don’t like the Gospel — that would be your own issue with God’s Word. God does not love the wicked. God loves only the elect who He saves. I don’t know who this Lyman is — but you think God is powerless and views the wicked and the just exactly the same. Your view of God leaves you in the mode of an enabler and a victim. A correct view of God is that God Himself is Love — but men are wicked. God is separated from them due to their sin. God gives saving grace only to the elect that He has chosen. God is not depending on man for anything related to His salvation. As Jesus said, You did not choose me but I chose you.

  3. I say this with heavy qualification, but I once rebuked him for the way he ‘humiliated’ Jehovah’s Witnesses – getting in their faces all aggressive.

Here is my first email to Mr Lyman:

“I know what it’s like talking to Jehovah’s witnesses and I empathize with how frustrating it is witnessing to people in darkness. But I think it’s a mistake to be aggressive and use insults. Maybe you piqued their souls to search for the true Jehovah of the bible, but I think your approach is a mistake. I’ve done the same thing because I’m personally implicated. I was caught up in the cult as a boy, and my mother is still blinded by it for nearly 3 decades.

I recommend you watch a series of videos by an Englishman who knows and loves the Lord, and lives in Poland by the name of ‘usernetposts’. I met him through a friend, a fellow Englishman, also living in Poland by the name Alan Heath – an amateur historian who makes videos on Polish and European history, especially the Second World War.

There’s three parts to usernetpost’s series showing him actually witnessing to JWs at his apartment in Warsaw. They’re quite long, but well worth watching. I used to live in Poland, so that’s the connection.

    Here is the first one:

    I’ll pray for you, brother.”

“I have been witnessing to them for 30 yrs. and believe this is scriptural. Titus 1”

Yes, he’s been doing this a long time, so he knows better than me, indeed!

    My response:

mrozanachronism Sent to: exposingthecults Re: Witnessing to Jehovah’s Witnesses 08/02/11

“And may the Lord bless you and guide you with the right words and demeanour in speaking with them for another 30, lest their hearts be hardened further.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been preaching or witnessing – we believers can still be tainted with self-righteousness Luke 18:9-14; Romans 3:23; ‘ whosoever shall say to his brother ‘Raca’ will be liable to the council’: but whosoever shall say Thou fool shall be in danger of hellfire.’ (Matt 5:22) Look prayerfully into your own heart when witnessing to the ungodly. You yourself say you are an inveterate preacher for 30 years, which is all the more reason to guard against pride and the ego, which waxes greater as we get older. We can play bible tennis all day long, but the fact remains that we must go unto the world regarding the whole council of God in our hearts, not overemphasising one and neglecting the other. I’m not saying you’re doing that necessarily – just saying we all struggle with the flesh.

I’ve often said words as a Christian when I was first saved to the unsaved out of turn, time and place. I’m fearful of the blood in my hands if I lean on my own understanding and try to use my own dialectical devices to try and witness. I’m scared of standing before god with blood on my hands if a word our of place and manner hardens men’s hearts further when, in trusting in the Lord, it could have been different. I know that ‘the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned,’ (1 Cor 2:4) and that by nature we’re hellbent, and ALL deserve hell from conception, but: He is ‘not willing any should perish’ 2 Pet 3:9; remember?

Please don’t take my rebuke as an affront – far from it. I care about souls, and as a bible-believing Protestant Christian, it is my duty to protest if if the Spirit so moves me.

    I will pray for you.”

I sent him a follow-up email the next day:

“As an addendum to what I wrote yesterday, since you’ve been preaching for so long, it’s all the more important to keep this in mind:

‘…except ye be converted, AND become as little children, ye cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.’ Matt 18:3

Something to keep in mind next time you have JW at your door and you’re tempted to shout ‘Raca!’ from the rooftops, and the pride of ’30 years’.”

“What a waste of time casting my pearls before swine.”

Conclusion, by your works, ye shall know them! How many souls has he won to Christ with his abusiveness. I am being bold here, but was this the type of person Jesus was describing when he said ‘not everyone who says “Lord, Lord”‘? I’m to fearful to make a judgement, because it’s for my Master to decide, but I have serious doubts he actually knows the Lord. Very sad if that’s the case.
