Secularism in Saddleback Church

A secular song which was origionaly sung by Miley Cyrus-  called “The climb” was sung  at Saddleback Church Worship Service, Jackie Barnard and the Saddleback Church Orchestra perform “The Climb” during the January 24, 2009 services.  As you know Saddleback church is Rick Warrens church

Here are some of the lyrics.  Remember that this is supposed to be sung in a church at a worship concert.  Is this seriously a Christian song?  Does this song really offer any hope, let alone reflect the gospel message.  Most of the lyrics are repeated so I will not bore you will every verse.

I can almost see it .. That dream I am dreaming  ..But there’s a voice inside my head saying .. “You’ll never reach it”

Every step I’m taking..  Every move  I make feels.. Lost with no direction  .. My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying..Gotta keep my head held high..There’s always gonna be another mountain

I’m gonna wanna make it move..Always gonna be a uphill battle..Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose

Ain’t about how fast I get there..Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side..It’s the climb

The struggles I’m facing..The chances I’m taking..Sometimes might knock me down

But no I’m not breaking..I may not know it..But these are the moments that

I’m gonna remember most yeah..Just gotta keep going

And I. Got to be strong..Just keep pushing on

Ain’t about how fast I get there..Ain’t about whats’s waiting on the other side

It’s the climb yeah..Ain’t about how fast I get there

Ain’t about whats’s waiting on the other side..It’s the climb, yeah

…….

(The song finishes with this line)

Keep moving, keep moving..Keep the faith baby..Its all about, its all about the climb

Keep the faith, keep the faith , whoa

I have emphesised in bold ”     Ain’t about whats’s waiting on the other side”  Brother you better believe it is about what on the other side.  While Miley may have not meant this for a church setting but is simply a song which she sings. So technically this has absolutly nothing to do with her except the fact that someone is singing her song in a worship service at Rick  Warrens church,

The lyrics have no place in a church setting let alone in a worship service.  It offers absolutly NO hope and NO direction.  lyrics like ” Lost with no direction My faith is shaking But I gotta keep trying Gotta keep my head held high” Does not present  the gospel.  It is easy believism with a message of absolutly no relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  It projects a message that says, Oh well keep going it might work out all right in the end.  That is not the gospel.   This is a secular song  sung in what we all know is a secular church.
