In a few weeks time the pope will be setting foot on British soil.    Irish Catholics have been offered tickets to travel over and visit their beloved pope except there are few takers.    More than any other nation the Irish Catholic Church has been devastated by the paedophile issue.  To put it bluntly the pope has not done enough quickly enough or has gone far enough to deal with this issue.  More than anything else he has covered up too much for too long.

Joseph Ratzinger’s state visit will be herald as a great success, when in reality it will betray a great failure.  He will be greeted by the cheering crowds when only silence should adorn his path with the intermitted cry for justice.  But I suspect that cry will go unheeded.

Dont turn a blind eye

The pope is slated to have tea with the queen rather than being served cold porridge in a cold cell.  I have never been a royalist by nature.  But if the queen chooses to entertain such a character as Rat zinger I will know that my instincts were right.  She would  be allowing herself to become a political pawn by  giving legitimacy to a wicked movement.

In a more recent event A LETTER HAS SURFACED WHICH WILL REUNITE and inflame THE WHOLE DEBATE over child sex abuse in the Catholic Church.    The letter is dated back to 1985 before he became a pope.

Associated Press (AP) said it had obtained the letter to Oakland Bishop John S Cummins, signed by Cardinal, resisting the defrocking of an offending priest.

The following is a translation of the letter, from its original Latin, to English, provided by the news article.

Most Excellent Bishop

Having received your letter of September 13 of this year, regarding the matter of the removal from all priestly burdens pertaining to Rev Stephen Miller Kiesle in your diocese, it is my duty to share with you the following:

This court, although it regards the arguments presented in favour of removal in this case to be of grave significance, nevertheless deems it necessary to consider the good of the Universal Church together with that of the petitioner, and it is also unable to make light of the detriment that granting the dispensation can provoke with the community of Christ’s faithful, particularly regarding the young age of the petitioner.

It is necessary for this Congregation to submit incidents of this sort to very careful consideration, which necessitates a longer period of time.

In the meantime your Excellency must not fail to provide the petitioner with as much paternal care as possible and in addition to explain to same the rationale of this court, which is accustomed to proceed keeping the common good especially before its eyes.

Let me take this occasion to convey sentiments of the highest regard always to you.

Your most Reverend Excellency

Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger

For over 25 years, Ratzinger was personally in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the part of the Vatican responsible for enforcing Catholic canonical law across the world, including on sexual abuse.  The office was originally known as the office of the inquisition.  So more than anyone else Ratzinger knew what was going on and did everything to cover things up.  It is this belief which is provoking such violent reaction by many.

As one commentator has stated:

“There are people who will tell you that these criticisms of Ratzinger are “anti-Catholic.” What could be more anti-Catholic than to cheer the man who facilitated the rape of your children? What could be more pro-Catholic than to try to bring him to justice?”

While I am not a Roman Catholic and therefore I believe that the whole movement is corrupt from the top down, while priests stand preying on their victims as vultures over their carcases. Nevertheless if Catholics did believe in justice and righteousness, then the cry for the pope’s dismissal should thunder down ever law court and Vatican office. Until Rat zinger is hauled off his pontiff throne, defrocked before the public and escorted in handcuffs to an awaiting prison van, thereupon to be tried in a civil court.

We must make it clear that those who choose to celebrate with him must also understand that they are endorsing his crimes, his cruelties and his cover-ups.  You will either stand with him or with the Catholic victims.

Mat 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and [that] he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
